Well my work was approved and the rest is history. I headed to Albuquerque for the People magazine shoot with Zoe Saldana. Most of the makeup I used to create her look was by Dior. I started with the Backstage Face & Body foundation in two different shades so I can not only even out her skin tone, but also contour, to keep it looking very natural. I mixed the foundation with the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD concealer to brighten areas like under the eyes. I worked with colors from the Dior Backstage Eye Palette in Amber Neutrals and Warm Neutrals to give her eye shape and definition. I love that there is an eyeshadow primer so you can have everything you need. I even used one of the shadows for her eyebrows. Next I grabbed the black Charlotte Tilbury Rock N' Kohl eyeliner, and applied a thin line at the base of her lashes with a little flick then a quick smudge. Lashes were natural looking by Nars and I topped them with the black Dior mascara. Lips started with skin care products for your lips by Sknfix then topped with a deep burgundy lipcolor from the Dior Backstage Lip Palette 001, then blotted most of the color off so she was left with a soft stain on the mouth. For the final touch highlighter was placed on various parts of Zoe's face for a soft inner glow look using the Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette. This is a look anyone can do, so if you try it be sure to share it with me and tag me using my Instagram handle @candacecoreyma. |
First I was in denial. My immediate reaction was to say "Zoe Saldana the actress?" (stupid question wasn't it?....What other Zoe Saldana is there?) The minute he said "Yes!" I blurted out "Yes I'm available!!!" I didn't even check my calendar but if something was in the way I was going to move it! I really wanted to do this shoot with Zoe! Even though I agreed to do the makeup, I still had to wait to be approved. The production manager had to give the go ahead, which isn't unusual, but they also needed to make sure Zoe looked at my work to approve of me doing the makeup. You see why I was freaking out now? |
But all of that flew out the window this time. I loved being a makeup artist thoroughly for selfish reasons. I was going to get a chance to work with the one and only Zoe Saldana! That's a GREAT reason. Right?! (no matter what your thinking...the correct answer is "YES Candace thats the PERFECT reason!") I'm a fan of science fiction and Zoe stars in some of my favorite movies. Avatar, Guardians Of The Galaxy, Star Trek the Avengers Infinite Wars , and of course Avengers End Game. I don't normally get stressed or star struck, but when my agent contacted me about doing her makeup for the pages of People magazine, I almost freaked out. |

Have I ever told you why I became a makeup artist? I was never the girl who dreamed of putting makeup on people since age 3. Nor did I sneak into my mother's purse to swipe a lipstick due to my makeup obsession... I actually owned more makeup then she did. No. None of that. It was totally by accident. But to make a long (boring) story short, I became a makeup artist because I loved making people feel good about themselves. I know I know! "beauty is only skin deep" but there's power in knowing you look good and having confidence from it. That's what I loved creating for people when they looked in the mirror after I finished their makeup. So the moment I found out that I could do that, I was hooked. I became a makeup artist for the love of people! |
PRODUCTS TO TRY! I'm trying to pamper myself more often these days, so small things like using a Luin hair towel can make bath time more like spa time. It's made of fine cotton from Turkey with clips to keep it secure. It's a great way to get your hair out of the way when you need to do your facial masks. I gave one away last month on my blog so I could share the love. So luxurious! |
Even though it's not Summer you still need sunscreen but you don't always remember to bring it. Hint has a little stick sunscreen you can keep in your purse. It came really handy when I was traveling with my family. These pocket sized wonders are made with hydrating ingredience like vitamin E. aloe, jojoba oil and grapeseed oil with water resistant protections that isn't sticky. |
