What is beautiful to you? Well Procter & Gamble is hosting a tour called My Black Is Beautiful to celebrate the beauty of our moca divas!
I had the honor of being featured as the 'celebrity makeup artist' for the event and shared the stage as a fellow panelist with various actors, singers and other celebrities to encourage women of color. The panelists included Queen Latifah, Angela Bassett, Sheryl Underwood, AJ Johnson, Daphne Valerius, Layla Hathaway, DJ Keith Garrett, DJ Frances Jaye and more!
Growing up thinking that my lips were too full, I really enjoyed being a part of an event that embraced the beauty of the unique qualities and differences that our culture has to offer. It was amazing to see the excitment from everyone about the event. Even BET did a TV show based off of the My Black Is Beautiful theme.
The event consisted of a full day of beauty, fitness, fashion tips and even services for everyone! Attendees could get their hair washing, colored and styling. They could also get facials, makeovers, massages and yoga lessons. Actress and fitness expert AJ Johnson had the whole crowd hoping to music to get their hearts pumpin' while she explained vital information to take better care of ourselves with the food we eat.
The tour starts in Charlotte North Carolina, then heads to Atlanta and swings up north to Chicago and finishes in New Orleans. One of the co sponsors for the event in Charlotte was Family Dollar, so I was able to start the tour right by going to the Family Dollar locations to give people beauty tips and makeovers.
At the MBIB event I later taught mini seminars called "Beauty On A Budget" on how to stretch your money for your beauty routine. I was able to do a lot of Q&A with women to address not only their beauty problems but to also show them how to save their money without having to short change their beauty routine. Even though they say "beauty is skin deep" you can't really do your best for others if you don't do good for yourself first...so that starts with taking care of yourself including looking your best!
After my seminars I hit the stage to join the other panelists. Actress Tasha Smith, from "Why Did I Get Married", did an amazing job as the hostess leading us in various discussions about what impacts black women yesterday, today and for our younger generation. After we discussed our thoughts and gave our opinions on each topic we turned the voice to the audience for a short question and answer session. The day ended with a mini concert from Layla Hathaway and Eric Roberson!
As I walked to my car tired and yawning one of the attendees approached me and said how much my beauty tips and comments during the event helped her. I thanked her kindly with a smile and said that I was happy that I was so helpful but truthfully I thought "Wow!"...because that meant so much to me! That was like a jolt of energy! I wasn't even tired any more.
The whole event made me feel so empowered and beautiful from the inside out! I hope others did too!
Beauty question: "What is the best waterproof foundation, lipstick, and lipgloss? I am currently doing make-up for weddings, galas, and pageants. I need makeup that lasts for hours and doesn't transfer." from Andrea in Texas.
Answer: Not all waterproof makeup products are transfer resistant.
If you have a favorite products that you currently use, you can make them waterproof and durable by spraying a makeup sealer on top by using Blue Marble Selr. It can also be used on sensitive skin as well.

MY FAVORITE THINGS
My favorite thing this month is THE FLIP HD camcorder. I love how it is small enough to fit in your pocket but it is 8GB giving you up to 120 minutes of video memory.
Some electronics require some sort of college degree to just use the thing, but not this one. One touch record and playback.
You can use the HGMI output for instant viewing on your television or you can edit your movies with the built-in movie making software, just hook it up to your computer with the pop up USB jack!
YouTube here I come!
