My Love Affair With LaMer

As everyone knows, I love being frugal. I like getting the most bang for my buck with everything that I do but I also love luxury products too. Here are a list of some of my MUST-TRY luxury products that are worth their weight in gold….which is what it can cost you to get.

OIL ABSORBING
When you say the word “LaMer” sounds of cash registers goes off in the backgroung. Probably because the cheapest item in their luxury line is $90.00 but I can attest to you, it’s worth every penny….so save up now.

Some of the must haves that I use personally and on some of my celebrity clients are the Oil Absorbing Tonic, which I used on Michael Strahan for the cover of People magazine (see what happened on that shoot). It seems like your standard toner, but its far more advanced. Not only does it control oil, hence the name, but it contains sea based algae and other nutrients to hydrate skin as well.

You can’t use the tonic without the Oil Absorbing Lotion. This moisturizer has a light weight texture, which I’m especially fond of, and gives the skin a matte (not dry-looking) finish which is especially good on men. It has oil absorbing balls in them that will help minimize shine through out the day. So if you have a tendency to be an oil slick, these two products will change your life.

EYE CARE
eye concentrate visibly diminishes dark circles – I keep it in my kit and on my personal counter at all times and I love using the applicator wand to push out fluid from puffy eyes.

Eye Balm Intense – reduces puffiness

Seasonal Tips I Shared On THE JAM!

Seasonal Tips I Shared On THE JAM!

I stopped by The Jam to give a few Seasonal Must Haves for the Fall.

These are the tips that I shared with them.

FASHION
There are a lot of wardrobe options this season, and a few of the elements have rolled over from the previous season.

Florals were big in Spring and Summer but are now trending in a big way in the Fall.

Denim blue jeans and shorts are always a Summer staple, but it’s embraced from head to toe for the Fall. So start with your blue jeans, and couple it with a top and jacket in the same fabric and color for a complete look.

Don’t like blue denim? No worries! Red is another head to toe must-have. Start with a suit jacket and layer on a coat, top and pant in any shade of crimson to make a stylish statement that sO chic!

Other textures to add to your wardrobe is velvet, metallics and glitter. Try knit sweater with shimmer woven into the fabric. Oxford shoes that are a shiny silver. Velvet bomber jackets and shoes covered in glitter!

No need to be a fashion guru to stay stylish, just use JCPenney.com/NowTrending to either shop online, or have it on your phone while in the store.

EYEWEAR UPDATES
Kids like to look stylish too, especially now that they are back to school. Take your kids for their annual eye exam to update their eyewear and be sure to opt for new frames in bright shades.

Some cute but chic options are the bright pink frames from Gwen Stefani GX collection, teal glasses from Cros, or a gradient purple eyewear by Kilter. For tips and fashion forward frames go to Eyecessorize.com

STYLISH DESK ESSENTIALS
Whether you need to update your home office or you need to get items for your college dorm room desk, you can use some of the same fashion know-how to make your desk stylish.

Instead of the boring standard black or white, try a floral clipboard or a dry erase board with flowers from Cynthia Rowley.

Get inspired by the blue denim and the red, by incorporating a red container for your document or a blue in-box drawer from the Martha Stewart collection.

Staples has fashion forward supplies from both Cynthia Rowley and Martha Stewart, as well as Dwell Studio, to mix and match for a chic look.

HAIR TRENDS
You have several options for hair this season, but the easiest (and my favorite) is either a messy ponytail or big natural looking curls or wavy hair. The key to either look is to use product like Alterna Haircare Caviar Style Sea Chic Spray to provide volume & texture.

For the ponytail, wear it low with loose waves so it looks “lived in”.

For the big wavy hair, embrace your natural texture but keep it looking a bit disheveled so it looks soft and sexy.

What trend do you think you’ll use this Fall?

Entry for a chance to win a few desk essentials by Staples. The giveaway begins September 1, 2017 ends October 1, 2017 at 12:00 AM.

My Day Working On A German TV Show

My Day Working On A German TV Show

As a professional makeup artist, I work on many types of projects. Recently I worked with a German TV show called Sarah’s Music for Deutsche Welle.

The show follows Sarah Willis around the world to showcase the diversity of classical music. She is a French horn player of the brass section for the Berlin Philharmonic.

I know what your thinking, but No. I didn’t get to go the Germany (it would have been cool if I did though). They actually came to Miami to visit the New World Symphony and legendary conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, who co-founded it.

I started my day super early in the morning beautifying Sarah. It was going to be a 10 hour day of non-stop shooting so I needed to be sure I had the time to create a look that was going to last. I used a combination of skin care and makeup by Caudalie, LaMer, Kat Von D, Tarte, Nars and Charlotte Tilbury. For hair I decided to use Nioxin and Paul Sebastian.

Sarah’s style isn’t high glam, so I went with a natural look that was approachable but fresh to match her bubbly personality. She loved it! So it was time to meet the tv crew.

The New World Symphony had an upcoming concert, so we shot behind the scenes of all of the prep work. From the video and sound booth to the practice sessions with the musicians. I love all kinds of music, including classical so I had a field day taking it all in.

The music was so amazing. So powerful! This may sound weird, but I could FEEL it. It was like my heart skipped a beat!

It brought me back to my childhood, when I wanted to be a dancer. Surprised Hugh? Yep! I never wanted to be a makeup artist growing up. Dancing was my first love.

I would watch old movies like American In Paris, Singing In The Rain, or Seven Brides For Seven Brothers and I was in my “happy place”. If you love music and dancing, be sure to click on those titles so you can see a preview of the musicals I’m talking about.

The second day was the concert. The concert was not only enjoyed inside, but it’s also broadcast outside onto the courtyard wall so anyone can pull up their lawn chairs or set out a blanket to watch the symphony outside. And trust me, everyone comes to see!

Before the show started we had the honor of talking to the conductor of the evening, Michael Tilson Thomas. He is a multi talented pianist, and composer. But he also shares his skills as the music director of the San Francisco Symphony, with the New World Symphony as the artistic director.

The fun part of the interview was Sarah’s horn challenge. The challenge is to see if someone who usually doesn’t play the French horn, can create a beautiful sound with the instrument. Be sure to watch the whole episode of SARAH’S MUSIC (shown below) to see if he can do it!

Spring Beauty Must Haves For Women

Spring Beauty Must Haves For Women

Makeup and hair by Candace Corey

Spring is here, so out with the old and in with the new! Here are a few Spring things for your beauty routine!

HAIR
If you color your hair, Spring is a great time to go for deep and dark to light and bright. To prevent your mane from becoming muted use a hair treatment, like the Alterna Haircare Caviar Infinite Color Hold Vibrancy Serum to your must-have list. The leave-in serum is a multi-tasker that will rejuvenate color, intensifies shine and add moisture. If you need it to do more, just mix some with your conditioner to transform it into a color recharging masque.

SKIN
As the temperature rises, your skin can begin to produce an excess amount of oil. To counteract the problem use a combination of toner and moisturizer (yes you still need to hydrate your skin), that provides benefits like refining your pores with oil control, like the OleHenriksen Balancing Force Oil Control Toner and OleHenriksen Counter Balance Oil Control Hydrator. The toner will also create a glowing complexion, and the moisturizer will act as a primer to make foundation last up to 8 hours.

MAKEUP
One of the popular trends for Spring makeup this season is the no makeup look. For lips natural is key. Instead of lipstick, line and color in with The Lip Pencils by Bite Beauty. The shades are neutral and natural, but provide opaque coverage in a creamy formula, due to the shea butter!

When you have less than perfect skin, opt for makeup like the Marc Jacobs Beauty Remarcable Full Coverage Foundation, to completely hide of flaws like blemishes, pores and imperfections without giving you a cakey masked look. So skin has a smooth natural looking glow.

BODY
Now that the layers of winter clothes are off, it’s time to keep your body moisturized. Start your hydration in the shower with Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash. It creates a thick lush lather that’s leaves your skin soft and moisturized using the benefits of shea butter.

If you shave your legs try the Shaveworks Pearl Luxe body lotion. It does double duty by minimizing any irritation or inflammation from razor burn, provides ultra hydration, while slowing down hair growth resulting in less frequent shaves. So you can have more fun in the sun, instead of spending all of your time the bathroom with a razor!

HAVE YOU TRIED ANY OF THESE SPRING BEAUTY PICKS?

My Day With Russell Westbrook And ESPN Magazine

My Day With Russell Westbrook And ESPN Magazine

Russell Westbrook for ESPN magazine, Photog - Pari Dukovic; Grooming - Candace Corey; Wardrobe - Brian Coats

(Russell Westbrook for ESPN magazine; Photog – Pari Dukovic; Grooming – Candace Corey; Wardrobe – Brian Coats; Wardrobe Assistant – Whitney Michel)
This month Russell Westbrook is on the cover of ESPN magazine, and guess who did the grooming? You guessed it, me! So I thought I’d share with you my day on the shoot and a few choice products guys can use to look their best this Spring season.

The shoot took place in Oklahoma City. Most of the time when I work on photo shoots I start early in the morning. For this shoot it was different. Due to his very busy schedule, Russell didn’t arrive until 3PM in the afternoon so that meant I didn’t have to be on set until 12:00 noon. (Yay! I can sleep in a little longer)

Once I arrived to the studio, I greeted the magazine editor and photographer before I headed off to the dressing room which housed me and the wardrobe crew for the rest of the day.

When I walked into the dressing room, there was wall to wall fashion, footwear and accessories that made your jaw drop. Russell isn’t just a basketball player, he is known for his stylish edge. He is so popular for his love of fashion that he rubs shoulders with Anna Wintor. So it wasn’t surprising that they brought in one of his favorite wardrobe stylists Brian Coats to style the shoot.

Brian has worked with Russell on numerous shoots, and knew how to find unique pieces that captured his flare for fashion. He had his wardrobe assistant Whitney Michel bring extra pieces, so the choices could be vast but the moment Russell arrived it seemed to take only minutes to pick the final outfits for the shots.

One of the looks that made the issue was an animal print shirt by Philip Lim with a black pant from YSL but my favorite was the cover look with the Alexander McQueen pieces. Even though the outfit was mainly black, the various textures (like the studded button down shirt) added so much interest and dimension. It reminded me of the movie the Matrix! The final piece….a black basket ball. Enough said!

Russell has very simple taste for his skin, just a few items from Vaseline and LaMer and he was ready.

To give you some guidance from guys, I’ve partnered with a few brands to give you some suggestions below on some beauty products men would love.

SPRING MUST HAVES FOR MEN!

SHAVE
Last year was the season of the beard and moustache. This Spring the men’s runways have been sporting more hair-free faces. Cop the look with the Bid Flex 5 Hybrid. The five blades are flexible to individually adjust to the contours of the skin so you get a close shave.

FACE
After the Winter season, give your skin a boost of vitamin C with OleHenriksen Truth Serum, to brighten and provide oil-free hydration. It also contains ant aging collagen, orange and green tea extract to firm skin and revive your complexion. Apply it before your normal moisturizer.

LIPS
Lips can become extremely dry so opt for more then just a basic chap stick. Using the Bite Beauty Everyday Agave Lip Collection, which contains an agave based lip balm, scrub and mask will make it easy to regain and maintain hydration. Use the balm for your daily moisture. At night exfoliate with the brown sugar scrub, and then finish with the mask overnight for the ultimate restoration.

BREAKOUTS
Whether your sporting short sleeves or no shirt, keep your shoulders and upper back free from pimples and breakouts by using a cleanser with salicylic acid like the Proactive Cleansing Body Bar. It’s mild and sulfate free, so it won’t irritate your skin. And it contains exfoliating beads to remove dead skin. For any hard to reach areas, opt for the Proactive body brush.

CHAFFING
Warmer weather means outdoor fun. While your being active, protect your skin and private areas from chafing and discomfort by using body products that contain tapioca starch like the Anthony No Seat Body Defense. Its a cream to powder formula that smells fresh while providing a barrier of protection. When you purchase a bottle, Anthony skincare donates portions of the proceeds to prostate cancer research.

HAIR
2 popular hair trend for men this season are mid length beach boy hair and faded undercut. The common factor in both is texture! Use a Styling Wax from the John Paul Mitchell Tea Tree collection to create flexible hold and texture with shine. It contains tea tree oil and other essential oils like peppermint and lavendar to invigorate. If you have kinky curly hair, use the wax with a styling sponge in circular motions to create natural looking texture that enhances your curl pattern. Paul Mitchell has partnered with the Reforest Action to plant trees worldwide for the “Rooted in Green” project to help conserve trees and slow climate change. So you can look good while making the world a better place to live.

I hope a few of these tips will get you Spring ready!

Winter Wonders – How Layering Can Better Your Beauty Routine

Winter Wonders – How Layering Can Better Your Beauty Routine

(Photog: Steven Ledell; Model: Lauren Klaus; Makeup/Hair/Creative Direction: Candace Corey

Winter is not just about finding your favorite coat to keep you warm and stylish. It’s also about finding the right beauty products to protect your skin, hair and body against the damaging elements. As the temperature drops, packing on the moisture can be the key to a better beauty routine this season. So just like your clothes….LAYER, LAYER, LAYER! Here are a few suggestions.

HAIR
Traditionally switching from a 2-in-1 shampoo conditioner in the warmer season to two separate products that moisturize may not be all you need. Fragile, processed or extra dry hair need additional TLC so don’t be afraid to pack on the power of moisture.

Start by applying a treatment to tresses, like the Oil Creme Pre-Shampoo treatment by Alterna, and massage it on the scalp as well.

To get the best results allow treatment to stay stay on your hair for 5-15 minutes before washing. It primes hair so shampoo and conditioner work more effectively but also locks in additional moisturize to a parched mane (good for all hair types).

To ensure all of your hard work of layering doesn’t go to waste, finish with styling products that hydrate as well. Hydra-Gelee is a great option that includes frizz busting benefits.

SKIN
Layering with your skin is important too, especially since fine lines due to dryness can show as the first signs of aged skin.

Start with a hydrating cleanser, like the Spa@Home 3 in 1 Melting cleanser by Masque Bar that transforms into an oil as you rub it on your face. Once all dirt, oil, and makeup is removed throw on an overnight mask before you go to bed to boost moisture as you sleep.

If you need a good nights rest, opt for the Masque Bar Spa@Home Sleeping Mask. It’s packed with lavender extract, and the scent will help you get the rest you need.

When you wake you can either wash again, or just rinse your face and finish with a moisturizer.

Here is an overnight mask option.

BODY
No need to stop layering now. For your body start in the tub with a scrub that can remove dry skin cells while adding nourishment using oil.

Wild Harvest Care body scrubs are all natural and contain multiple oils, like almond and coconut, to soften skin. The Green Tea scrub is designed to give youthful radiance to the skin. The Coffee scrub smooths and minimizes the look of cellulite, which is perfect after all of the food you ate over the holidays.

When done towel off and layer on some body lotion. Use one that will last all day like the Lubriderm Advanced Therapy, which contains vitamin B and E but also snuggles your skin with 24 hours of moisture.

No matter what products you decide to use, just remember that the key to great Winter beauty is all in the layering!border

30 Days Of Beauty – Day 18 thru 21 : Count Down

30 Days Of Beauty – Day 18 thru 21 : Count Down

When I first thought about doing my 30 Days Of Beauty series, I was really excited. I felt this would be a great way to end the year.

Feature one product a day, for one month. Simple to do right?

Wrong! Not even close. Adding a daily blog upkeep to my, already hectic crazy life was just plain dumb.

It’s been like working a two full time job that both require OT!

To get this done, some days were all nighters. I felt like I had to tape one eye open at a time so the other eyelid could nap.

I’ve fallen asleep in mid type, to wake up with “NNNNNNN” all across the screen.

And, I’ve been shooting images of the same product from 20 different angles, only to find out during editing that all of them were blurry except the 3 ugly ones.

Now it’s December 30th and I’m just now writing about Day 18! (UGH!)

I’m not sure if I want to cry or kick someone. (Hold on. I need a moment to pray, so I don’t loose it)

(Ok. I’m better)

For this post I’m just going to give you a quick run down of some beauty goodies, for Day 18 to 21. Then I’ll give away a lot of stuff.

Sound good?

It’ll be my way of saying THANK YOU for hanging in there with me.

Truthfully, it’s bribery for not calling me out on the fact that it hasn’t been exactly 30 individual Days of Beauty like I hoped.

Whaaaaaat?! Why are you asking me questions? Didn’t I say “tired” and “wanted to kick someone”? (Sigh)

Yes I can count! I’m not delirious yet!

Day 22 thru 30 is in my next post with the beauty breakdown of the makeup demo tutorial that I did for you guys! (Yes that post is today too)

So, here you go guys! Enjoy!

DAY 18: Charlotte Tilbury Dreamy Look In A Clutch Makeup Set & USB

This is a great set. It contains:
•Legendary Muse eyeshadow palette
•Mini Legendary Lashes mascara
•Mini Legendary Eye Liner in the color Bedroom Black
•Mini Legendary Lip Liner in the color Bitten Kiss
•A tube of the Hot Lips lipstick in Secret Salma
•USB in the shape of a lipstick with a Video Tutorial (cool right?)

DAY 19: Kerastase Nutritive hair care
The perfect solution to all levels of dry hair because it adds nourishment, replenishes moisturizer and restores shine. So your hair is left feeling soft and silky.

DAY 20: PONDS Cold Cream
This is an old school that knows how to multi-task. It’s a makeup remover, cleanser and moisturizer – all in one! I especially love it during the winter because it provides intense hydration. Just apply a thin layer to your face, then use a dry cotton round or damp towel to wipe away the days dirt and makeup.

DAY 21: Alterna Haircare Caviar Volume Trio Kit
I’ve used a lot of this brand for fashion shows. This particular set is a three-piece travel kit featuring Alterna’s best-selling Volume products that strengthens and restores hair’s natural fullness, allowing you to see more voluminous, healthier-looking with each use.
